Issei Suda (1940-2020) was a Japanese photographer living and working in Chiba (Japan). Born in Tokyo in 1940, Issei Suda graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 1962. He began his career in 1967 as a stage photographer and documentarist of the avant-garde theatre group “Tenjo Sajiki”, before pursuing as a freelance photographer from 1971. His first series (His & Her, Passing Summer) revealed his unique style and led him to his first international success in 1978, with the publication of Fushi Kaden by Asahi Sonorama. Issei Suda passed away in Chiba on 7 March 2019. 78 is his first posthumous publication by a European publishing house.
