Artist statement:
“Taking photographs at YEP’s summer camp, as part of my series Mystery Street, gave me an in-depth understanding of the importance of their work. New Orleans is marked by very strong social inequalities, and when it comes to summer and school vacations, many children don’t have the chance to go on vacation. Through artistic and sporting activities, as well as excursions outside the city, YEP opens up new horizons for these children. My project in New Orleans brought me face to face with a number of issues — foremost among them that of representation — as part of a practice I describe as post-documentary. I think it’s important to think about positive ways of finding, in my own way, a direct payback in favour of the children with whom I carried out this project.
I’m delighted to offer for sale on my publisher’s website Chose Commune, for a limited time only — from today to Sunday November 26 — three prints at 100€ each, available in a 20 x 24.5cm format, in an unnumbered and unsigned edition. Out of this retail price, 20€ will be allocated to the cost of producing and packaging the prints, while the remaining 80€ will be donated in full to YEP. It is possible to buy the 3 prints as bundle, and also with the book.
Thank you for your attention,
Vasantha Yogananthan”
